UPCOMING PFA FUNDRAISING EVENTS

PFA is busy with a number of fundraising events to help us pay our vet bills after a busy fall. Please take a look at the list below to see if any of these events are of interest to you:
  • Catalogue sales with Epicure and Norwex - These sales end Nov. 30, so please get your orders in ASAP. For more info or to request a catalogue, please contact Denise.
  • Meowy Christmas Potluck Supper - Sat., Dec. 5 at the Regina Senior Citizens Centre, 2404 Elphinstone St. For more details, visit the the PFA Event Calendar.
  • Donation cans in SLGA Liquor Stores - Please watch for our PFA donation cans in liquor stores throughout the month of December.
  • Fundraising Bingos - Bingos continue to be our primary source of fundraising income, and it is challenging to find enough volunteers during this busy time of year. If you have a free evening or Saturday and would like to help out PFA by donating your time, please contact our Bingo Coordinator. The shifts are split so volunteers only have to work 3-4 hours at a time rather than a full shift of 6-7 hours.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HOLIDAY PHOTO SPECIAL AT PETSMART

Please join us the weekend of Dec. 17-18 for the holiday photo special at PetSmart. We need several volunteers to work an 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. shift each day taking holiday pet pictures and printing out photos. Two people are required for each shift so bring a friend!

We also need people to bring their pets to be photographed! PFA will get $5 for every holiday pet photo purchased: we know you are excited to see your little furry friends decked out in a Santa suit!

WEATHER COOPERATES FOR EXTENDED TRAPPING SEASON

The recent warm weather has enabled PFA feral team volunteers to extend our Trap/Neuter/Release efforts well past our normal cut-off point, allowing us to sterilize an incredible 106 feral cats since Mar. 29 (this does not include the numerous tame cats that we have rescued, sterilized and adopted out)! When you consider that two uncontrolled breeding cats that have two litters per year with a survival rate of 2.8 kittens per litter will end up producing over 80,00 cats in a 10 year span, that's a lot of prevention.

The team also rescued approximately 30 young kittens that are too young to be sterilized and are in foster care (and up for adoption!)

A big thank you to everyone who has donated items, their time and effort to help PFA;s feral team in winterizing our colony shelters. Your work has been greatly appreciated. We are feeling better about the cold weather coming knowing our feral cats will have adequate shelter to survive the long, cold winter.

BEWARE OF HOLIDAY HAZARDS FOR PETS

The holiday season brings fun, festivities, and for many people, decorations in the home. Please note that common holiday decorations such as light strings, tinsel, ribbon and even the abundance of rich foods, can be very dangerous for dogs and cats if chewed or ingested. Please visit http://www.petplace.com/cats/tips-on-winter-holiday-hazards-for-cats/page1.aspx for more info.

Also, please be careful of common winter materials such as ice melts and salt, which can make pets sick if ingested (pets pick up salt on their feet when out walking and ingest it later when they clean their paws - it is a good idea to wash your pets feet after a winter walk.)

SOME SPECIAL THANK YOUS

PFA would like to thank our friends from Everyday Style, Epicure and Norwex for partnering with us to raise much needed funds for our rescued animals.

We would also like to thank the students and staff at Montessori School, and their families, for a tremendous effort to donate funds and supplies to PFA. We are most grateful for their generous gifts.
