NEW E-BULLETIN

Welcome to the first issue of People for Animals' new E-bulletin! We are excited to use this forum to communicate regularly with our members. Each issue will bring you news on PFA's events, successes, and adoption and volunteer opportunities. If you have any ideas on other information you would like to see in this new bulletin, please send an email with your suggestions to saskpeopleforanimals@gmail.com.

OUR WEBSITE

Our new website is http://www.people4animals.ca. We are very fortunate to have our web hosting, design and new domain name donated by local Regina company KonTakt Consulting. Many thanks to our members Barb and Lindy Kasperski for such a generous gesture! The site is now up and
running, and our talented web designer Alana is adding information and links daily. Be sure to bookmark it!

EAT AND GREET POTLUCK FUNDRAISER

You are invited to a fundraising potluck on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Regina Bahai Center (2900 15th Ave.). Admission is $10, and all proceeds will go directly to the animals. Please bring a food dish to
contribute. A purr-fect evening is planned, with a short presentation on the work being done with the animals, and the work yet to do.  Come out to spend an evening with other animal lovers, and let us get to know you! For more information, contact Diana Chabros at diana.chabros@sasktel.net or 352-2732.

SUCCESSES

  • PFA has had our busiest summer ever, with numerous cats and dogs rescued from the streets, sterilized and fostered, and then adopted out. We have also had a very busy summer at our feral cat colonies, trapping and sterilizing cats, then returning them to their colonies, and scooping feral kittens at a young age so that they can be socialized and adopted.
  • So far this year, we have saved 90 animals from certain misery and death!
  • The work done by People for Animals was profiled in the Regina Leader Post at the end of June, resulting in an increase in calls and donations. You can read the article here: http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/news/story.html?id=b701d685-d45d-4a35-a863-5b1347d9fbb8. We were also profiled in a television news interview with our President, Debbie Sentes, in April.
  • We have had 17 new members enroll during the months of June, July and August.
  • PFA members held two garage sales during the month of August, with all proceeds going towards People for Animals. Many thanks to Sarah Pump and Marion Chabros for their efforts! We were also a bold presence at the World's Biggest Garage Sale, and were very pleased with the amount of funds raised to help the animals. Thank you to Debbie Sentes for organizing that event.
  • The PFA fundraising raffle concluded on Aug. 16. Many thanks to Metro Pet Market, Marsha Kennedy, Gail Edington, and Joanne Craig for contributing such high quality prizes, along with an extra thanks to 11th Ave. Grafic Visuals, who donated the framing for Gail Edington's painting, and Diana Chabros for organizing the raffle. Congratulations to the winners: Ray Slogoski, Art McKinnon, Tammy Passmore, and Zoe Jones-Balycky.

UPCOMING CHALLENGES

  • While PFA's board is extremely pleased with the results of our hard work this summer, the sad truth is that our funds are extremely depleted due to so many sterilizations being performed at local clinics. With winter coming, the pressure is on to save as many cats as we can from the street, and we are not sure how we will afford to do it! This fall, we have the fundraising potluck planned, another yard sale, and we continue to strive for new members. Please consider us when you are making your regular charitable donations.

  • People for Animals continues to work on our application for charitable status with Revenue Canada. We are hopeful that this application will be approved in early 2009.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

  • Foster homes for cats, kittens and dogs.
  • Transporting animals from veterinarian clinics to foster homes.
  • Trapping feral cats and taking them to the vet.
  • Printing, posting and delivering PFA's monthly adoption posters.
  • Donations of cat and dog food, cat litter, cat beds/blankets, as well as cash donations to help fund medical care and sterilizations.

ANIMALS FOR ADOPTION

Kittens Howie and Pippa were rescued in April, along with their feral mother and two siblings, from Canadian Tire South. They were born in the garden area and cared for by store employees. People for Animals rescued the whole family, and only Howie and Pippa are still waiting for a new home. For pictures or more information, contact Sarah at badbunnygirl@hotmail.com or 565-1860.
