VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Working bingos continues to be a crucial part of our fundraising efforts, bringing in much needed funds to assist with veterinary care for rescued animals, especially spays/neuters. PFA needs volunteers for work bingos on June 2nd, 17th, and 22nd. These are daytime bingos, which are especially hard to staff, so if you can help out, please
contact us to volunteer.

MONTY: A PFA SUCCESS STORY

Earlier this spring, PFA teamed up with a concerned citizen to rescue Monty, a sweet two-year-old male cat abandoned when his former family moved and left him to fend for himself outside. Monty was scarred from street fights and was so badly matted he had to be completely shaved upon rescue. But, we knew he was special and he very quickly won the
hearts of a wonderful adoptive family. His new family sent the following update:

"Monty, now Willis, has been such a success in so many ways. When we decided we wanted to adopt a cat we were looking for one that really needed a forever home. When we first heard Willis’ story we knew that he was the one. He has adapted very well to our home and our other cat Bear. He is very comfortable as an indoor cat and enjoys watching all
the activity outside. He always greets us at the door when we come home and always has something to say. Willis is getting healthier and healthier everyday and we would like to thank everybody from People for Animals for all their help. Thank you again for rescuing Willis, he has become a large part of our lives."

BENEFITS OF OLDER CATS

It’s kitten season and our rescued kittens are being adopted by loving families almost as soon as we get them into foster care. This is great news for PFA, but it does mean that some of our wonderful older cats are being overlooked.

Kittens are cute and fun, but they are also much more active, and thus more work than mature cats. We have a number of calm, friendly and healthy older cats ranging in age from 2-7 years that will make wonderful and loving companions for many years to come. Please visit this interesting link to read more about the benefits of adopting an older cat, and consider adding one of our “seniors” to your home.

CARING FOR INJURED OR ABUSED WILDLIFE

Cats and dogs aren’t the only creatures out there that need help. Spring brings the return of geese, ducks, rabbits and other wildlife that are at risk from various hazards in urban settings, including vehicles and human cruelty.

PFA was recently made aware of a situation in which the nests of several geese were destroyed and gosling eggs deliberately smashed. This kind of animal abuse is not only cruel, it is illegal. Charges can be laid if there are witnesses or other evidence to support the case. If you witness animal abuse of any kind, please report it:

* If you see someone mistreating cats and dogs, call Animal Protection 777-7700.
* If you find an injured animal or bird in Wascana Centre, call the
Wascana Centre Authority for assistance at 522-3661 (or 347-1820 after
hours).
* If you witness an act of cruelty towards wild birds or animals, or
find injured wildlife, contact a conservation officer 787-0037 or
787-8665, or the TIP (Turn in Poachers) line after hours at
1-800-667-7561. You can also contact the Humane Society (777-7000), or The Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Saskatchewan at (306) 242-7177.
* If you see dead animals on the highway that need to be removed, call 787-4952.

The following veterinary clinics in Regina will euthanize birds at no charge:

Albert North Vet Clinic,
Animal Clinic of Regina,
Lakewood Animal Hospital,
24 Hour Animal Care Centre,
Gardiner Park Animal Hospital, and
Wascana Animal Hospital.
