Harrowing Rescue Yields Tiny Family Into Care

Regina Cat Rescue was recently contacted by a concerned citizen who spotted a cat in the window of an abandoned, boarded up house and was worried that the cat was trapped in there.

While several people had reached out to local rescue agencies for help with this situation, it didn’t prove to be easy. Because there were broken windows that could allow cats to get in and out and there was no information available on who owns the property, it was difficult to legally gain access to the house. We were told there was not sufficient proof that an animal was trapped to obtain a warrant.

Not to be discouraged, a determined RCR volunteer decided to stop by the property to see if she could spot the cat. As luck would have it, she encountered a neighbour who was able to connect her with the landlord. In short order, she was able to enter the home with his permission and encountered quite a horrific situation. There had been a fire in the home, and there was insulation and garbage everywhere. Cockroaches and rodents were plentiful. After dealing with all this, she was able to rescue a mama cat and her 5 wee kittens from a place not fit for humans or animals!

After fire ravaged the interior, the home was abandoned.

Alyx and kittens in the safety of foster care

The little family is now in foster care and thriving. However, their care will amount to more than $2000 for to care for them and prepare them for adoption, including sterilization, vaccination, identification and anti-parasitic treatments.

Our volunteer is also hot on the trail of the poor cat pictured in the window as recent sightings have confirmed she is still present in the home and accessing the food and water left daily.

A sweet lady rmeains in need of help

This is truly a heartbreaking situation and we can only thank those that go above an beyond for these poor souls left in these situations!

Tiny Heat Exhausted Kitten Saved!

Tiny Greta landed on RCR’s radar screen last weekend when a citizen contacted us that a very young kitten had been found near his home and was in need of help on one of the hottest days of the year!

He reached out for help with the kitten and an RCR volunteer was quick to attend the scene when she realized that the kitten was being held in a hot vehicle on a 30 degree + day.

Thankfully we were able to get the sweet little gal to safety before any harm occurred. She is a sweet and precious baby thriving in foster care and will be available for adoption early this fall.

RCR would like to remind the pubic that animals should never be left in vehicles on hot days! They can experience heat exhaustion and dehydration just like people. For resources on dealing with an overheated animal, please visit the links below.
