Another sad goodbye
/
Wednesday night I was contacted by Northgate Animal Hospital to let me know one of our tame cats that had been living at one of our feeding stations had been hit by a car and Animal Protection had just brought Lincoln in. Dr. Bath was doing what he could to stabilize Lincoln but he had a broken leg and would need surgery the following day. Devastated, I let the head of our feral team know the situation.
Thursday morning came and Lincoln was moved to Animal Clinic of Regina where an Orthopedic surgery was on staff to do the surgery. Unfortunately Lincoln's blood work showed that he was not able to undergo surgery just yet and would need stabilize to ensure the best outcome of his surgery. And so I sat with Lincoln at the clinic for several hours keeping vigil and letting the little fellow know that there was someone with him who, though I had just meet him, loved him and wanted him to pull through to have a long happy life. Later blood work showed some improvement and the decision to wait over night was made. I came home to think about the sweet faced fellow who had just turned my heart and world on its head.
When the call came from the vet Friday morning the news was not good. Poor Lincoln's blood work remained dire and there was no hope of being able to undergo surgery to fix his broken leg. With this news the decision was made to stop poor Lincoln's suffering. Once again I found myself at Lincoln's bedside trying to give him all the love he had not received while living on the streets of Regina. Trying with each pet and soft spoken word to let him know that in the short time I had known him, he had made an incredible impact on my life. Then he was gone. A life cut far too short.
Currently PFA has 10 cats living at our feral feeding stations just like Lincoln. Sweet tame kitties who have found themselves homeless through no fault of their own, waiting for a loving, caring person to open their home and their heart to them. If you have room in your home and your heart to help a wonderful kitty like Lincoln avoid a tragedy like his, both PFA and the kitties would be eternally grateful. Please contact PFA at pfasask@gmail.com for more information on how you can help a kitty still waiting for a foster spot.
A big thank you goes out to Dr. Bath at Northgate Animal Hospital for doing everything he could to give Lincoln his best chance. Also a big thank you to the vets at Animal Clinic of Regina who also worked hard to save Lincoln and who were so kind to me during this tough time. Without our Veterinary partners we could not save the number of cats that we do each year.
