We Are Crowing About This Rescue!
/Ricky the Rooster on his way to his new home.
Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) volunteers are used to dealing with all kinds of unusual situations when rescuing cats and kittens, but when notified by concerned citizens of a mama cat and kittens living under a deck with a rooster, everyone was a bit skeptical.
Sure enough, when RCR feral team leads went to investigate, they discovered the little cat family hanging out under the deck with a rooster, and they all seemed to get along famously! This was a new one even for our very experienced feral team volunteers.
Ricky's kitten friends provided to be the trick to capturing him.
The mama cat and kittens were trapped and moved to a foster home in short order, but the rooster, who was given the name Ricky, remained more elusive. The concerned citizens who had reported the rooster/feline family tried for several days to catch him without success, so RCR volunteers decided to boost the efforts with some bait - his little kitten buddies.
As soon as he heard their little mews, Ricky the Rooster popped out to say hello and RCR volunteers were able to catch him and get him into a carrier. From there, he was taken to his new home at the Free To Be Me Animal Sanctuary near Moose Jaw.
The mama and kittens are doing well in foster care and will be available for adoption in 3-4 weeks.
Special thanks go to Louanne at the Free to Be Me Sanctuary for giving Ricky a safe place to go, and to our volunteer Sandra who took on the task of transporting our foul-smelling fowl friend to his new home.
