RCR was recently contacted for help with a stray mama cat and her 4 kittens that were living in a yard in the Cathedral Village neighbourhood.  A kind gentlemen had first noticed a pretty stray cat walking down Victoria Avenue in the bitter winter cold, and tried to keep  an eye on her to see if she had a home. Recently, it became clear that she was homeless and needed help and he began feeding her and forging a bond. Once she started coming around regularly for food, he realized that the little cat had kittens that she was hiding across the street.

At that point, he contacted RCR for help to ensure that the little cat family got off the street and got a chance for a better life in loving homes.  It wasn’t easy to get them as the mama has been stray for a long time and was timid, and the kittens had not been handled by humans.  It took a couple of efforts by our feral team to get the mama and all four babies safely to a foster home, but now they are settling in and doing well.  Her former caregiver was very happy to see them rescued. Here is his touching email:

I am so glad mama and her babies were rescued.  That little girl has been through a lot.  I first noticed her last winter walking down the street at -40c.  I was anxious to know where she lived and so I kept my eye one her.  It wasn't until one of the last downpours we had when I saw momma  just walking down the street while it poured down on her.  My heart broke after seeing this and I started leaving food out and noticed she was coming and eating daily, much to my delight.  After she would eat I noticed she started going across the street so I watched her and that was when I noticed the kittens.

We are glad they are rescued too! Abbey and her kittens Rider, Philly, Annie and Ally will be available for adoption in the near future. For more information about these lovely cats, please contact us at reginacatrescue@gmail.com.
