Good Night, Sweet Taj

Last Monday, we received word from a concerned supporter that her friend had found a tiny injured kitten on the highway while travelling back to Regina from Yorkton. The kitten was in urgent need of veterinary care and we quickly agreed to take him into our care. Upon arriving in Regina, the woman rushed the kitten, who she named Taj, to the Victoria Veterinary Clinic. He was found to have a dislocated hip and was suffering from a traumatic injury to his back end, which had become infested with parasites.

The vet managed to stabilize Taj and the little guy proved to be a fighter. Despite his serious injuries, he was sweet, affectionate and determined to survive. He had to be force fed and endured daily hydro therapy to keep his hind end clean, but handled it all like a champ. Everyone who met him fell instantly in love with the little charmer. He acquired a small fan club that visited him at the clinic every day to give him cuddles and encouraged him to keep fighting. After a few scary days when his body temperature would suddenly plummet and we started to fear the worst, little Taj started to perk up and eat on his own. We were confident he would pull through.

Unfortunately, Taj didn't make it. He passed away suddenly yesterday, despite having greeted the clinic staff boisterously only hours before, demanding his breakfast. The ordeal was just too much for his tiny body and overwhelmed system.

While we are incredibly saddened by Taj's passing, we are happy that someone cared enough to stop and rescue him. We are also grateful that we had the opportunity to show him love and kindness, and were able to provide him with a peaceful, comfortable passing.

It is a sad reality that as a small, volunteer-based rescue, we can't save them all. But we do what we can and you can help us to help more cats like poor little Taj. Please consider making a donation or buying a membership, volunteering at one of our fundraising events, or purchasing raffle tickets in support of our mission. And, consider joining us at the Just for Cat film festival to celebrate all cats from the most pampered pets to feral cats and neglected, abandoned kittens.

Rest in peace wee Taj.
