Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) is sad to announce a temporary intake freeze. Our small team of volunteers are overwhelmed and we simply have no space for new rescues.
We have been hit by a perfect storm of slow adoptions, a high volume of returns of previously adopted cats, and a deluge of intake requests.
There are several underlying issues at play: The high demand for pets during the pandemic has fallen off, and many animals are being surrendered due to lifestyle and challenging economic times. The rise in homelessness goes hand-in-hand with the amount of animals without shelter. Veterinary care is costly and increasingly difficult to find due to the shortage of veterinarians nation-wide.
This crisis is unfolding in communities across the country, and with capacity in rescues and shelters strained, there is an increase in owners abandoning their pets.
It is extremely difficult to turn away the many cats in need of aid, and we urge all members of the community to help. If you have the financial means to care for cats in your community by sterilizing and offering food water and shelter, it goes a long way in tackling the overpopulation crisis in our city.

Regina Cat Rescue does not operate a shelter location and we rely on volunteer foster homes to take in stray cats. While we would love to rescue every stray cat, we are limited by capacity.
We will respond to your form as soon as we can, but please understand that Regina Cat Rescue is an entirely volunteer-run organization, it may take several days to hear back from us. In the meantime, learn how you can help stray cats here.
