Fine Option Program
Through the Fine Option Program, the Ministry of Justice gives people the opportunity to settle fines by doing unpaid, supervised community service work at a rate of $10 per hour, rather than paying in cash. As a non-profit and registered charity, Regina Cat Rescue offers Fine Option Program opportunities. If you’re eligible to participate in the Fine Option Program, RCR has volunteer opportunities for you, including bingo, Rider game kiosks and other community events.
Participating in the program
After you’ve been convicted in court of your offence or you receive a conviction notice in the mail, contact the John Howard Society in Regina to find out if you’re eligible to work off your fine. (Some fines aren’t eligible for the program.)
If you’re eligible for the program, take your paperwork from the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan to the John Howard Society. Let the program facilitator know that you’re interested in volunteering with Regina Cat Rescue.
The John Howard Society will contact Regina Cat Rescue to inform us of your involvement in the Fine Option Program. This information will only be made available to the RCR president and the volunteer co-ordinator.
Visit http://www.reginacatrescue.com/upcoming-events to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities. Email info@reginacatrescue.com to indicate your interest in a volunteer opportunity.
Regina Cat Rescue will inform the John Howard Society once you’ve completed your required hours. The John Howard Society will the notify the court and the fine is considered paid. Failure to complete your required hours can result in a warrant being issued by the provincial court.
